Why I Want To Be Your Union Mayor
For One More Term.
Approximately ten years ago, I was president of the Hampshire Home Owners Association. The HOA team asked that I attend city commission meetings to see what is going on with city government. So, I started attending City Commission meetings to listen and learn, then report back to them. I learned that the city was a traditional small town bedroom community and city government was run as a typical small town. The problem was that city was growing back then, and they knew that they had to do something.
Because I am a professional marketing researcher, I volunteered to conduct and moderate a series of focus group interviews among City of Union residents. We found that the “something the city needed” was to strategically plan growth, and to manage said growth in a “fiscally responsible way”. As one Union resident so rightly stated those sessions, “Growing the City is a business and it should be run like business!”
Over the past eight years, this is what we have done. My background is a combination of Business and the Public Sector experience. As indicated on “My Background and Qualification Page”, I hold a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Master Of Business Administration from The Ohio State University. I worked for the Ohio Youth Commission when obtaining my Public Administration degree. Then after getting my MBA, I went onto Kimberly Clark, Procter & Gamble, then to Valvoline (division of Ashland, Inc.) for 30 years being a “professional Marketing Researcher” for these companies…starting as an analyst and ending as a director. So over the past eight years, my unique combination of business and public sector experience has been just right to be Mayor of Union KY…and will continue to be over the next four years!
I had planned to just serve one or two terms. However, the city is on the cusp truly becoming the larger city we have laid the groundwork for over the past eight years. The Promenade Project has been approved. The Grammas family is building a new mixed use (business/residential) complex off Brilliance Ave., Graeter Ice Cream/Braxton Brewery complex is being built on the Kroger out-lots. The new Union Point Center is being built on the corner of Frogtown Road and U.S. Rte. 42 across from Ryle High School. And now, we are working on developing the long sought Town Center on the 22 acre formerly Grammas property between new and old Rte. 42. With your help, I would like one more term to complete the job this administration started under my leadership eight years ago.
As stated, Florence population as of 2020 Census is 34k; Union is now 7.4k, and Walton is now 4.2k in population. So statistically, Union is the second largest city in Boone County! However, being the second largest city in Boone County is not just a statistic…it is an attitude! This administration, under my leadership, has worked very hard to change the stated attitude of being a traditional small town bedroom community to being proud that we are “the second largest city and being the place to be in Boone County”… that is our attitude!!!
In mid-January, I filed to be your next mayor at the Boone County Clerk office. I thank Judge Gary Moore for his support and friendship.
